GETTING TO NANZHILA PLAINS

From Lusaka: Take the Great West Road out of Lusaka to Mongu. Pass through Mumbwa, and 215 kms from Lusaka take the Murram road left to Lake Iteshi-Teshi, 115 kms due south. Be prepared for a slow drive, as this previously tarred surface has broken up and is badly potholed. Continue through the town of Lake Itesh-Teshi and follow the signs to Musa Gate and to the Park Headquarters at Ngoma, approximately 22kms from Musa Gate. Once through Ngoma, follow the Cordon Road south past the gravel airstrip of Ngoma which will appear on your right, and take the first turning left for a further 35kms to the deserted camp site of Kalenji Scout Camp - turn right at Kalenji and keep the Nanzhila River on your left – follow the signs to Nanzhila Plains Safari Camp, approximately 15 kms from Kalenji.

From Livingstone: head due north on the Lusaka Main Road: at Kalomo, 120 kms from Livingstone, turn left at the Kalomo Hotel – follow the road through the village market, over the railway bridge and bear left at the District Administrators House, now a National Monument, and follow the road for a further 70kms to Dundumwedzi Gate – sections of this road are in very poor condition, so 4x4 driving might be necessary.
After the Gate, which is now the Kafue National Park, follow the track for a 3km distance to a fork in the road – in the dry weather you may take go straight, which will take you up the eastern side of the Nanzhila River, but do NOT take this road if its wet! If you are in any doubt, take the left turn and follow the Cordon Road for a further 65 kms in a northerly direction and turn right at the Nanzhila Plains Safari Camp sign.

By air: from Livingstone or Lusaka, guests may charter into Ngoma Airstrip – it is recommended that you contact us to book charters and arrange collection from the Airstrip. Should you visit us by air, it’s a 2 hour game drive back to camp… add this to the experience!
